To quote the 1996 blockbuster – Trainspotting – “Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f*&^ing big television, choose washing machines, cars, CD players and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose your future. Choose life…” let’s call it right there. Unfortunately today’s physical culture chooses not to choose life, and the reasons? Because people are far too fickle to choose the hard road. Instead we choose fast food, soft couches and weekend movie marathons.
Look up, look around you – this is our society, luxury cars, convenience foods and home delivery.
We choose all these things over life expectancy. In the 21st century far too many people are living in the land of unicorns and endless summers. There is no secret elixir or fountain of youth. All the growth hormone, face lifts, tummy tucks and boob jobs are not going to get you strong lungs, a strong heart and a body that naturally responds with might and main towards every day stress.
We were not born to go to work, pay bills and die. We were born to live.
Choose to be better, choose to detest the things in life that make you a slave to the nation. Take note of what everyone around you is doing, and do the complete opposite. Go to the gym, get a trainer, take a step, hell, take a leap and commit to do something that is completely off your level of contentment. Stop being complacent – take a risk, go against todays supine culture and do something epic. Move. Just move. You won’t believe how satisfying an increased heart rate can be.
Health, fitness, and strength brings you complete and utter freedom that very few will realize until they no longer have it.
I meet people on a daily basis that don’t partake in exercise. Nothing. Not a single weight is moved, leg is lunged, or muscle flexed. Nada. Nente. Besides the obvious health benefits, besides having the willingness to live longer or live healthier these people who are not moving cannot be truly living. Move to live, no?
If this is you, clean up and move on, go straight and choose life
As Socrates put it “It is a shame for a man to grow old, without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable”
Moving, sprinting, lifting, pulling and pushing are some of the simple fundamentals our bodies are designed for, from caveman to modern man in the street our abilities should not alter. Whether you are a gym bunny or corporate desk jockey, you should be capable of running a mile, moving around heavy objects, and pushing weights far beyond your bodyweight and pulling more than just a girl/guy on a Friday night without being completely out of breath. This should be a standard requirement for both men and woman alike. Be more capable.
When you choose to live, move and perform, you choose to survive, you choose to go after
longevity with everything you’ve got. So go relentlessly. Do not hide your intent, do not make excuses for your pursuit. Blood, sweat and tears are what you will measure your success by.
Me, personally, you can take away everything. My property, my business, my cars and my investments but I will always have my body.
Choose a future, choose longevity, choose health, choose life.
