Should you eat before you train or should you train fasted?
This is something that comes up so often, so I wanted to give you a brief tip on this. Use it, don’t use it.
Honestly, it’s going to depend on what your intention is in the gym.
If you training for performance, strength, power, speed, musculature you want to fuel your training.
In fact, in my opinion even if you training for fat loss, fuelling your training with carbs and protein is going to allow you to train at a higher capacity, so you can train harder for longer and get more out of your session.
The harder you work in training, the harder your body has to work to recover, which means your body has to work harder during rest which means a higher metabolic cost which means more calorie burn, so even if you only chasing fat loss.
I’d still recommend fuelling your training.
This doesn’t mean you need to have a huge meal, a protein shake, with some slow digesting carbs like rolled oats can go a long way in giving you sustainable energy in the gym.
Fast digesting carbs like potato, rice and bread can go far as a post workout as they help replenish depleted glycogen stores in your muscles. Another added benefit is that these carbs stimulate insulin release. Since insulin is a hormone that promotes tissue growth, it’s going to help you in your efforts to build muscle.
Remember more lean muscle, more ability to burn fat.
If you have any questions or want to know a little bit more about fasted training, please give me a shout.
Big love, Lil
